How to force quit an app on your iPad

If an app on your iPad becomes unresponsive or frozen, you can force quit it to resolve the issue. This process can be done quickly by accessing the App Switcher. Here’s how to do it:

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Access the App Switcher:

    • On iPads without a Home button (iPad Pro models 2018 and later):

      • Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle of the screen. This will open the App Switcher.

    • On iPads with a Home button (older models):

      • Double-click the Home button to access the App Switcher.

  2. Find the App You Want to Force Quit:

    • In the App Switcher, you will see a horizontal list of recently used apps. Scroll through the apps to find the one that is not responding.

  3. Force Quit the App:

    • Once you’ve found the unresponsive app, swipe up on its preview to force quit it. This will close the app completely.

    • After swiping, the app will disappear from the App Switcher.

  4. Return to the Home Screen:

    • After quitting the app, you can swipe down from the middle of the screen or press the Home button (on older iPads) to return to your Home screen.

Why Force Quitting an App May Help:

Force quitting an app can help if it is behaving incorrectly, such as freezing or not responding to touch. When you close an app this way, you essentially stop it from running in the background, which can resolve performance issues. However, keep in mind that force quitting apps regularly is generally not needed, as iPads manage resources efficiently.
