How to Avoid a Cyberattack

Several colleagues at Admincontrol are sitting on a sofa and discussing together.

Safely navigating the corporate digital space is the opposite of easy. How are we expected to keep everything safe in a world where cybercriminals lurk around every corner, trying to get access to your most precious information? It can feel impossible. But thankfully, when it comes to safeguarding your documents and information, Admincontrol has the solution.

While our systems are secured to the nth degree, you also need to ensure that you are acting in a cautious, but not scared, way that keeps you safe from devious digital deceivers.

Avoid Phishing Attacks

Phishing and spying have unfortunately become much more frequent in recent years. To be honest, clients need to be responsible for upping the security of their business and personal networks. Every device is a possible gateway into your company.

It used to be that hacks and attacks were mostly aimed at companies and servers that store confidential and critical information. Now, there’s been an increase in targeting clients with the goal of using phones and tablets as alternative ways into the company.

Phishing is a great way for internet bad guys to trick you into letting them into your device. The most typical phishing scheme is using email. Hackers will hide themselves behind urgent or important messages, trying to get you flustered enough to answer them or click on a suspicious link. Once you fall for their scheme, they’re in. It’s important to understand how to identify phishing schemes and scammers. Always be aware and at least a little suspicious of unfamiliar senders.

Six Tips for Strong Information Security

Security is a topic that should be discussed right up to board level in the organisation. The reality is that you’ll get nowhere without management and the board being serious and compliant when it comes to security.

Here are six steps you can take to make your organisation’s security a little stronger:

  1. Management must take security seriously
Stop thinking “this won’t happen to me,” because anyone can be hit by a cyberattack. Develop a security culture and systems for protecting the company against future attacks.
  2. Adopt user-friendly and tested security solutions
If you choose sharing platforms that take security seriously, you’ll have full control over all your sensitive data.
  3. Train your employees
All employees should receive training in everything from creating secure passwords to knowing which documents can be safely opened and which should not be. It is crucial for security to become second nature to everyone in the company.
  4. Adopt good password routines
When creating passwords, think about making passphrases. The typical suggested jumble of letters and numbers can be cracked by any good hacker. Create long and challenging passphrases like TheCowJumpedOverTheMoon98!?  This makes it more difficult for outside hackers to infiltrate. Also, don’t reuse passwords and always utilise a password manager such as 1Password that keeps your information safe and secure.
  5.  Ensure systems are updated
Be sure that any recommended system updates are installed. They’re updates for a reason - they help keep your system as protected as possible.
  6. Log out from and lock digital devices when not in use
Shut it down! We’re all guilty of closing our laptop and calling it a day. But don't forget to go that extra step and formally close your device. Hackers can’t install malware on a device that isn’t on.

Admincontrol's Commitment to Security

Admincontrol is dedicated to the highest level of security. We are so dedicated to it that we have gone above and beyond to achieve the following security certifications:

  • ISO27001:2022
  • SOC 2 Type II

  • G-cloud 14
  • General data protection regulation (GDPR)

With Admincontrol’s iOS and Android app, all data is encrypted and also implements a secure shield. This shield provides extra security that prevents external attacks.

In Conclusion

It’s so important that there is a culture of cyber security in an organisation. Like we said, this culture has to be adopted on all levels - from the board to the rest of the team and beyond. Keeping everyone safe and aware while at work and home only means positive things for the security of your company in the long run.
