What You Need to Know About Single Sign-On

As much as we might hate to admit it, our lives are tied to our phones. We are living in an age that requires us to have access to multiple apps, multiple forms, and multiple services all at one time. This can be annoying when it comes to having to log into many of your personal apps, but it can be especially complicated when working with important business applications and services.

This is where single sign-on (SSO) comes in. It helps enhance security, make the login process much simpler, and easily manage users through a centralised ID portal.

What Is SSO

SSO is a feature designed to make the authentication process easier for customers using the Admincontrol platform. SSO allows a user to access multiple apps or services with a single set of login credentials. This means that they don’t have to sign in to every single app they use.

By using Microsoft Entra ID, users won’t have to re-enter their credentials every time they log in. It works by logging in to your company account, which then becomes accepted by the Admincontrol login. But don’t worry, SSO services don’t store user information or identities. Instead, they work by checking and matching a user’s login credentials with information stored in identity management services.

To put it simply, with SSO, all you have to do is log in once and you don’t have to input your login information to other applications when you want to access them.

How Does SSO Work?

  1. A user logs into their company's Entra ID tenant using SSO.
  2. Once the user is authenticated, the SSO tool creates a session authentication token. This token contains information such as the user’s identity, such as an email or username, and stores it in the SSO system. The SSO session is created on the first application they use it for. It should also be noted that the company is free to add even stricter security features, even for the Admincontrol application.
  3. When the user tries to access another provider, the app then checks the SSO system to see if the user has already been authenticated for the session. If they have, the SSO system then validates the user with a digital certificate that grants them access to the application. The Tenant Security Administrators only manage user access to Admincontrol, not portal specific permissions or roles.

What Are The Benefits of SSO?

  1. Seamless Login Experience: Users only need to log in once to access multiple applications, reducing password fatigue and improving productivity. It helps make your working life much faster and easier.
  2. Enhanced Security: At Admincontrol, our biggest concern is security. While SSO improves your log in experience, it also increases security across all the applications you use. This helps  reduce the risk of important information slipping between the digital cracks and getting into the wrong hands.
  3. Simplified Management: Administrators can easily manage user access and permissions through a centralized Microsoft Entra ID portal.

 SSO and Admincontrol

Admincontrol uses Microsoft Entra ID SSO. By leveraging Microsoft Entra ID, formerly known as Azure Active Directory, users can log in once to access all integrated applications without needing to re-enter their credentials.

With SSO, our clients can manage the authentication through their own dedicated tool for identity and access management. This way, our clients can choose who is authenticated and who is not.

SSO also must comply with certain regulations and security requirements. Admincontrol ensures that we have complied with and obtained all relevant requirements to ensure we are held to the highest standards of security.

In Conclusion

SSO is here to make your working life easier and more secure. At the end of the day, we all want to worry less and work faster, and implementing SSO helps improve that process even in a small way. It’s the unsung hero of efficiency and security in this day and age, so don’t be afraid to implement it with your Admincontrol products.
